Driver licensing software upgrade (May 2024)

ICBC will implement software updates this spring, impacting card production and delivery.

Starting May 27, 2024, card production will be delayed, potentially affecting customers waiting for their B.C. driver’s licence (BCDL), B.C. Services Card and B.C. Identification Card. We expect this delay to last until early July.

All interims issued during this period will be stamped to inform customers of a temporary delay in card production.

Tentative software update schedule:

  1. Employee password changes for DLAs & SBCs – April to June, 2024

  2. Pilot software deployment - Mid June

  3. Software deployment to all locations – July to August

February 2022 card changes

Driver licences, identification cards (IDs), and BC Services Cards issued in 2022 will have a new look.

ICBC has a new service provider for card production. Starting late January 2022, customers renewing or applying for B.C. driver's licences, BCIDs and BC Services Cards will receive cards with a new look. These new cards will look similar to the current cards but will have some design changes, including a glossy finish and repositioned data fields.
