Did you know that per capita, Canada uses more energy each year than almost any other country? This is because Canada has one of the highest ratios of car ownership in the world.

As a driver educator, you can help teach your students to save energy, save money and help save the environment!

Introducing the Auto$mart Program

Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency (NRCan) has developed the Auto$mart Program.

Its purpose is to help Canadians buy, drive and maintain their vehicles in ways that conserve energy, preserve the environment, protect our health and save money.

Use less energy, save hundreds of dollars per year in fuel and maintenance costs while you help save the environment when running your vehicle.

How driver educators can help

An important part of Auto$mart is its driver education kit for driver educators. This free kit provides information to help students think about their driving behaviour in a new way — a way that makes the connection between fuel efficiency, climate change and road safety.

Auto$mart looks at the benefits of safe, fuel-efficient driving: the personal benefits, the financial benefits, and the benefits to the world's environment.

Did you know that from 1990 to 2004, the number of heavy-duty diesel vehicles in Canada increased by 110 percent, with an 83 percent increase in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions? This growth increases health and environmental problems.

As a driver educator, you can help teach your students how to conserve fuel and reduce operating expense.

What is FleetSmart?

FleetSmart is a program by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to promote energy-efficient practices that can reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Be FleetSmart

NRCan offers free practical advice on how energy-efficient vehicles and business practices can reduce your fleet's operating costs, fuel consumption and GHG emissions, improve productivity and increase your competitiveness.
