Approving an instructor trainee assessment officer
ICBC–authorized instructor training certification facilities must use qualified assessment officers to assess instructor trainees enrolled in their training program.

Instructor trainee assessment officer requirements
In addition to meeting the instructor trainer requirements, an assessment officer must meet these basic requirements:
Class 1 assessment officers
Have conducted at least 2000 hours of Class 1 driver training and at least 1000 hours of Class 1 theory driver training — or an acceptable combination of training and experience
Have held for at least five years, a Class 1 practical and theory driver training instructor licence — or equivalent driver training or driver safety experience
Class 5 assessment officers
Have conducted at least 2000 hours of Class 5/7 driver training and a minimum of 1000 hours of Class 5/7 theory driver training — or an acceptable combination of training and experience
Have held for at least five years, a Class 5/7 practical and theory driver training instructor licence — or equivalent driver training or driver safety experience
Motorcycle assessment officers
Have held for at least five years, a Class 6/8 practical and theory driver training instructor licence — or equivalent driver training or driver safety experience
Air brake assessment officers
Have taught air brake courses for at least three years at a recognized driver training facility
Steps to approve an assessment officer
1. Submit your request with the instructor's proof of qualifications.
2. Get your approval letter
If your assessment officer meets the requirements, we will send you an approval letter — when you receive it, your assessment officer can begin conducting assessments of instructor traineess at your facility for the approved designation.
