Driver training
Become a classroom driving instructor
Get your GLT designation to teach classroom lessons (theory) for ICBC-approved courses.
You must have a valid driver training instructor licence to get a GLT designation added to it. With a GLP/GLT designation, you can teach both the practical and classroom components of an ICBC-approved course that you are licensed to teach at a licensed driving school.
Note: To ensure training standards are met, even with a GLT designation, ICBC may temporarily prohibit instruction of one or more components of an approved course (e.g. if a driving school inspector observes poor instructional delivery).
Eligibility
To get a GLT designation, you must:
Have a valid driver training instructor licence (for Class 1, 5, 6 and/or Airbrakes)
Complete the GLP instructor course
Apply to ICBC's Driver Training Industry Support (DTIS) to have a GLT designation added to your instructor licence
Get your GLT designation
Register for and complete the 5-day GLP Instructor Course (GLPIC). You must successfully complete all assignments and attend the entire course.
Note: ICBC intends to phase out the GLPIC. More information will be shared when available.
