Become an air brake instructor
To teach air brakes, you must hold an air brake certificate of qualification issued by ICBC.
Requirements
To become an air brake instructor, you must
Be at least 19 years of age
Have at least two years' experience operating air brake equipped vehicles
Have successfully completed an air brake instructor certification course
Steps to getting your air brake certificate of qualification
1. Enroll in an air brake instructor course.
Currently there are three air brake instructor training facilities in Aldergrove, Coquitlam and Kelowna. Details on these offices may be found on the instructor training facility list - the facility will enroll you in their course once they confirm that you meet the requirements.
You will need to provide the facility a customized driving record that shows when you received our air brake endorsement on your driver's licence. This record is not available online or at a driver licensing office. You must phone driver licensing customer contact and specifically request that they send to you a driving record with this information. Driver licensing contact numbers.
2. Get your air brake instructor certificate of qualification
After you successfully complete the air brake instructor certification course, the training facility will notify our office and we will send you a certificate of qualification - when you receive your certificate, you can begin teaching air brake courses.
